Budd Hopkins
The artist whose books made the Grey the standard abductor and hypnosis the standard tool.
Hopkins was a successful abstract expressionist painter who became the most influential abduction researcher of his era. His books Missing Time (1981) and Intruders (1987) argued that abductions were common, hidden by amnesia, recoverable through hypnosis, and part of a long-term genetic programme producing human-alien hybrids.
He fixed the Grey as the standard abductor and hypnotic regression as the standard method. Memory researchers criticised his techniques as likely to create false memories, a debate that still defines how the abduction phenomenon is understood.
