Zecharia Sitchin

The writer who reinterpreted the Sumerian Anunnaki as genetic engineers from a hidden planet.

Sitchin was an author who claimed to translate Sumerian and Akkadian texts as literal history: the Anunnaki, gods in the originals, were in his reading visitors from a planet he called Nibiru who engineered humans as workers. His Earth Chronicles series, beginning with The 12th Planet (1976), is the foundation of modern Anunnaki belief.

Assyriologists say his translations are wrong and that Nibiru names a celestial point, not a planet on a long orbit. His ideas nonetheless remain among the most widespread in the ancient-astronaut world.

Known for The Anunnaki / Nibiru thesis
