The Las Vegas Backyard Incident
Minutes after a green fireball crossed the sky over Nevada, a family called 911 to say two tall creatures 'not human' were in their backyard. A police body camera had recorded the fireball. Officers found nothing; the family's story became one of the most shared of the decade.

What happened
At about 11:50 p.m. on 30 April 2023, a bright green meteor streaked over the Las Vegas area, seen by many and captured on a Las Vegas police officer's body camera as it passed over a patrol car. About forty minutes later, a family in North Las Vegas called 911. A young man said that after something fell in their yard, they had seen two figures, eight to ten feet tall, with big shiny eyes and large mouths, standing by the fence, and that they were 'not human'. Officers arrived, found frightened people and no figures, and left. The call and the body-camera video were released weeks later.
The beings
Described by the callers as very tall, thin, with large eyes and 'shiny' appearance, and as moving strangely. Later interviews added detail; one family member said the figures seemed to move in and out of visibility. No photograph or physical trace was produced.
Aftermath
The case spread on social media in June 2023 and drew television crews to the house, which the family said they eventually had to leave. The police closed the report. The meteor itself was confirmed by the American Meteor Society from dozens of reports across Nevada, Utah and California.
Explanations
The fireball is real and explained. The backyard figures rest on the family's account alone, made within an hour of a startling event. Sceptics read it as fear and expectation acting on shadows and a neighbour or an animal at the fence, in the immediate aftermath of seeing something fall from the sky; supporters note the family's evident distress on the 911 recording and the officers' own surprise. There is no physical evidence either way, and the case is disputed.
